Biography

Following the completion of his BSN at the University of Illinois Chicago, Dr. Stein worked in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL until enrolling in the nurse anesthesia program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). After graduating in 2008, Dr. Stein worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Anesthesia Associates of Belleville for 6 years. He began teaching at SIUE within the nurse anesthesia program in 2010 and currently serves as the Program Director. Dr. Stein sits on several School of Nursing and University Committees and is active within his political organizations. In 2014 he founded Starlight Anesthesia, an anesthesia contracting company that provides perioperative anesthesia services to hospitals, anesthesia groups, ambulatory surgical centers, and physician offices throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Dr. Stein completed his Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice degree at Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia in 2017. In 2016, Dr. Stein was recognized as a March of Dimes “Nurse of the Year” finalist and in 2017 he was recognized as one of Illinois’ 40 Under Forty Emerging Nurse Leaders. His primary interests include student retention, defining new pedagogical models for millennial learners, technology in anesthesia, and virtual reality simulation.
